Stars don’t get much bigger than Tom Daley right now. He seems to be everywhere; even testing his sporting mettle at the recent World Diving Championships in Barcelona. Despite coming in sixth place in the individual 10m platform final, the news that Tom will be presenting a new six-part ITV show on travel around the world is bound to put a smile on his face.
The six-part show, made in tandem with his best friend Sophie Lee, will see Tom travelling in countries including Thailand, New Zealand, Japan, Australia and Morocco.
Tom will be staying in hostels along the way and experiencing the typical student backbackers trip. He’ll also get to try out a few activities such as bungee jumping (should be doddle for him) and will meet up with other celebrities along the way, including the Saturdays’ Mollie King.
Tom said: “I can't wait to get away on my trip. Diving and training are my first love, but I am looking forward to a break from the norm and discovering more about places I've never had the chance to explore before. And to do it all with my best friend will be amazing.”
ITV director of digital channels said “Tom's career as a diver has captivated the nation. We hope this show will give people the chance to see the teenager behind the trunks as he enjoys his global backpacking adventure.” Of course, it will be a chance for Tom to do what normal teenagers do when they are his age. With all his commitments, he may have had very little time to do the backpacking trail in earnest.
The show will be of particular interest to anyone planning their own backpacking adventure. It will help you to figure out what to take, where to go and the benefits of backpackers travel insurance. The show is due to be aired later in the year so keep your eyes peeled.
