Turkey could suddenly be a more attraction holiday proposition for British tourists after the government there confirmed plans to offer visa-free travel.
The UK is among six countries that will no longer require a visa for short visits from early March, with visitors able to enter for up to 90 days per six-month period.
Other nations to benefit include Austria, Belgium, Poland, Spain and the Netherlands, with the Turkish government keen to promote the country’s tourism offering.
More than 2.5 million Brits flocked to Turkey in 2019, previously having to pay £27 each for an online visa.
Given that visas were required by both adults and children, the move means a family of four could save well over £100 on the cost of a trip to the Mediterranean nation.
On top of popular destinations such as Istanbul, Turkey’s cultural and historic centre, the beauty of the Aegean Coast and the nation’s Black Sea coast, there are plenty of striking destinations to attract Brits.
The region known as the Turquoise Coast, where Turkey borders the Mediterranean Sea, is one such example, offering nearly 1,000 miles of spectacular coastline.
Antalya, the capital of the region, has its own international airport and is packed with historical charms, including the remnants of a Roman harbour.
The city makes a great hub from which to explore the picturesque stretch of coast, including Belek, Side and Alanya to the east.
Belek is renowned for its quality golf courses and large resort hotels, while Side is home to an array of Roman remains and golden beaches.
Meanwhile, Alanya continues to grow at pace, with an abundance of package holidays offering Brits the chance to explore its gorgeous sandy beaches and imposing medieval fortress.
The beautiful stretch of the Turquoise Coast offers ample opportunities for road trips for any Brits wanting to hire a car.
If you do plan to hire a car, remember to purchase car hire excess insurance though, to provide cover should the vehicle be damaged while in your possession.
Such cover can provide peace of mind for the duration of your trip and costs significantly less when purchased in advance via a third party than it does as the rental desk.
