A new study has found that bathing in the Blue Lagoon of Iceland is the most sought-after travel experience among millennials.
Iceland’s place at the top of the list should come as no surprise, as the destination has grown to become one of Europe’s most popular in recent times.
The No Regrets study of 5,000 international millennials aged between 18 and 35 was conducted by the travel company Contiki. It outlined a shift in outlook for young people towards more culture-based trips rather than partying.
Coming in second was seeing the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, finishing just ahead of a walk across the Great Wall of China.
A number of Australian experiences dominated the list, with chilling out in Australia’s Byron Bay, finishing in fourth place, whilst watching the sunrise over Uluru (13th), snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef (14th) and cuddling a koala in Queensland (18th) were among the other experiences that featured.
The US also offered a number of popular experiences for millennials, with a road trip down Route 66 (sixth) named as the highest-ranking US activity, followed by partying in Las Vegas (11th), visiting Yosemite National Park (12th), and taking a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon (17th).
France also proved to be a popular European destination, with a kiss at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and a picnic in the French countryside grabbing the eighth and tenth place slots respectively, whilst seeing Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa painting in France was the 15th most popular experience.
Millennials were also keen to discover pizza making in Italy (fifth), enjoy a gondola ride in Venice (seventh) and to try gelato in Rome (16th).
Surprisingly, Costa Rica featured on the shortlist twice, as watching sea turtles lay their eggs on its coast finished in ninth as well as enjoying a zip-line ride through its rainforest (19th).
Riding a bike through Amsterdam rounded off the top 20 travel experiences for millennials.
