At Questor Insurance we love visiting new countries, however wish we didn’t have to waste so many hours travelling on the plane, especially when we would rather be exploring exotic destinations and having fun! Take a look below for our top tips on how to make the most out of your long haul flights:
Pack the essentials – Pack a light bag containing the essentials, so you are comfortable and able to freshen up during the flight. Make sure you pack any medication you require, a tooth brush, clean clothing, deodorant, tissues, sleeping kit, spare batteries and lip balm. Don’t forget when traveling with liquids in your hand luggage containers should be stored in a sealable clear bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm x 20cm, each liquid item must also not excessed 100mls this includes gels and creams.
Pack a good book – We recommend picking a book which you know you will get stuck in to. Not sure if the book is for you? Read the first few chapters, just make sure if you enjoy the book that you have some left to read on your flight.
Pack the gadgets - Make sure your gadgets are prepped with plenty of charge and entertainment. Remember while you are flying you won’t be able to just access the app store and download the latest games and eBooks. Ensure you pay attention to on-board notifications as some airlines do not allow you to use electronic devices during take-off and landing.
Earphones, Music and Take off! – Pre load your phone or iPod with plenty of tunes to help pass the time away, don’t forget to pack a pair of comfortable earphones for prolonged listening.
Magazines and Puzzle Books – Pack a few magazines and puzzle books, we recommend packing a few spare pens just in case!
Upgrade – Spending a little extra on an upgrade can help you feel more comfortable and will include those extra amenities to help pass the time by. Failing an upgrade make sure you book a good seat, no one wants to be sitting by the toilets for 15 hours.
Be comfortable – Be sure to wear comfortable clothing when boarding your flight, there is nothing worse than spending hours on a plane in an uncomfortable outfit. We also recommend wearing layers so you are able to add or remove some if you become too hot or cold.
Snacks – Fussy with food? Make sure you pack plenty of water and snacks for throughout the flight. Hard boiled sweets are great for reliving the pressure in your ears from the high altitude and sugary snacks always help the time go by quicker.
Get some sleep – If you can, board the flight well rested as it can be difficult to sleep during a flight. However if you are looking to get some rest before landing we recommend packing a sleeping kit including a light blanket, flight pillow, eye mask and ear plugs.
Don’t look at the clock – As tempting as it may be, try refraining from clock watching during the flight. Long haul flight clock watching doesn’t help the time pass any quicker and will just make you feel frustrated at best.
