With the frantic pace of modern life, time is truly of the essence. As a result, many Brits are reluctant to make room for even the smallest of gaps in their timetable. If there’s an hour or even minute to be spared, it must be used productively – or so our thinking goes.
It is for exactly this reason that today’s mobile gadgets have become indispensable to modern-day travellers. Whether it’s a beachfront villa in the Maldives or a city break to New York that takes your fancy, a few quick swipes on your device is all that stands between you and the holiday of your dreams.
Now, new research from Skyscanner has revealed that we are using our mobiles to book flights abroad whenever the mood strikes us. This means that those cosy meals out, exercise routines and more are interrupted by our attempts to secure the best flight deals possible.
Topping the ranking of the top ten locations to book a flight on a mobile or tablet is our workplace (20%) - no real surprise there – while other top ten rankers may raise an eyebrow or two amongst fellow travellers. These are as follows:
2. In the pub – 12%
3. Out for dinner - 10%
4. Whilst at the in-laws - 8%
5. On a train – 7%
6. In a work meeting – 5%
7. At the gym – 5%
8. On a commute to work – 4%
9. On a bus – 4%
10. In the bathroom – 1%
Skyscanner’s Jenny Herbison, mobile business strategy and operations director said:
“Travel search and bookings have gone through a major transformation with the rise of mobile devices.
“With travellers having their mobile devices nearby, and checking them frequently we expect the growth to continue, especially on tablets, as they are devices that sit between desktop and smart phones,” she said.
