The winter chill has well and truly set in for the UK and for those who want to escape to the sun, where better to head to than the balmy and bargain-friendly climes of Fuerteventura?
The Canary Island has come out on top in the value for money stakes in TripAdvisor’s TripIndex Winter Sun 2014, trumping 28 other winter sun destinations around the globe to claim its position.
Examining the cost of a week’s stay in a two bedroom holiday rental, one week’s car hire, basic self-catering groceries and dinner at a restaurant; including drinks for a family of four this winter travel season (15 December – 31 March), Fuerteventura's total came in at a wallet-pleasing £525.
This was compared to some of the most expensive winter holiday destinations, including - Turks and Caicos (£3,952) – so; it's not hard to see why fans of winter holidays flock to Fuerteventura time and time again.
The best value winter sun ranking locations was completed by the following destinations:
“This year’s TripIndex Winter Sun results reveal that families seeking the best value break from the British winter weather should head to the Canary Islands. However, for those looking for something a bit more exotic a bargain can also be found in Goa and Grenada,” commented James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson.
The Post Office’s recent Winter Sunshine Report also revealed the locations where Brits abroad can get more bang for their winter sun buck, with another Spanish holiday favourite taking the crown for the best value destination.
With the total cost of the eight travel 'basket' items - including coffee, wine, sun cream and more - coming in at just £44.03 in the Costa del Sol, UK holidaymakers will have more than one reason to smile as they jet off for a break in the South of Spain.
If you are heading off on holiday as a family, it's important to organise family travel insurance in advance.
