London Mayor Boris Johnson announced plans to make London the electric car capital of Europe three years ago, but progress has been slow so far. “New figures suggest that London is being slow to embrace electric cars” said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group. “But it could be the ideal option for motorists keen to reduce their fuel costs and avoid congestion charges,” he added. Figures released last month showed that just 588 extra electric cars have been registered in London in the last three years..
But Europcar is hoping to change that, by adding the Nissan LEAF – a fully electric car – to its London fleet of vehicles.
The car hire company has said that every customer who hires a Nissan LEAF will be given a face-to-face handover by a Europcar representative. Customers will also be offered the chance to have their hire car refuelled for free, as Europcar tries to tempt London drivers into investing in electric. “Europcar has recently added the 100% electric Nissan LEAF to its fleet in London. With 400 charging points now installed across the city, we think this is the perfect time for motorists to test out the new technology,” added Mr McCall.
“Hiring a Nissan LEAF could be the ideal option for motorists keen to reduce their fuel costs and avoid congestion charges. At the forefront of electric vehicle technology, it fits perfectly with our philosophy of pioneering sustainable car hire solutions, giving customers a real choice when it comes to car hire.”
If you are thinking about hiring a car abroad, it is a good idea to consider taking out car hire insurance. This will insure the excess on your rental agreement, while offering other forms of cover.
