Four UK cities have made it into the top ten fastest growing tourist hotspots in Europe.
Glasgow, Manchester, Belfast and Liverpool were all voted into the top ten in a travel poll compiled by Trip Advisor. The top ten list was based on opinions posted on the website from travellers across the world.
Glasgow came in 6th place, followed by Manchester in 7th, Belfast in 8th and Liverpool rounding off the top ten. Kiev in Ukraine topped the list, followed by Moscow, Turin and the Russian city of St Petersburg. Trip Advisor spokeswoman Emma Shaw said: “All winners should be incredibly proud of their award.
“Not only has traveller interest in their destination increased, but each city has also seen a significant rise in positive feedback on their hotels, restaurants and things to do. For those unsure about where to travel next year, this list may offer welcome inspiration. “With the hangover of the 'Jubilympics' set to hit in 2013, it's great to see four UK destinations recognised in what may mean a great boost to the UK's tourism industry.”
Glasgow recently experienced a multi-million pound riverside development, which saw shipyards and steelworks replaced by art galleries and concert halls. Glasgow City Council leader Councillor Gordon Matheson said that the city’s recognition on the list “demonstrates a real vote of confidence in Glasgow.” Manchester, home to Old Trafford football stadium has also just launched the national football museum.
In addition to Europe’s top 10 fastest growing tourist destinations, TripAdvisor also compiled a list of the world’s top 10, putting Mar Del Plata, in Argentina, in the top spot. Sao Paulo and Kiev followed in second and third place. Going overseas can be a fun and exciting adventure, especially to up and coming tourist hotspots. But remember to take out travel insurance when going abroad, for peace of mind.
